Teaset Adventures

This blog post belongs to last week’s weekly post, however as explained in that post, it was not the time to post about my adventures.

This week I have been productive in many a ways, the red dress was finished and a new project has ensued. I have begun a circa 1950’s blouse with a standard button-down in the front and a curved yoke and inverted box pleat in the back. This project has been coming along nicely with the curve yoke being hemmed and ready to be attached to the bodice, which is backstitched together. And I’ve added about 100 new references!

With sewing it is apparent to come with failures and this week has been no such exception for I have cut two right-side body pieces out of the fabric! This has led to an unfortunate waste of fabric and having to cut the left-side body piece on a different axis due to insufficient fabric in the original axis. It does not seem to be visually evident to be cut on a different axis so I did not lose any visual appeal to my mistakes!

I have also visited the garment store for the first time, which was certainly an experience during Covid-19 times. It did have an abundance in choice in regards to buttons and lace, however, the fabric types used in their fabrics were noticeably less cotton-only based than I expected from a local store, it seemed to have polyester is nearly all decent priced fabrics compared to the ones I find online. However, nevertheless, I have acquired a very nice thick pure cotton fabric that will serve very nicely for a winter dress or lining for a winter coat.

On Thursday I decided to visit the local thrift store to find some nice little historical decoration or old books on fashion but found neither! What I did find was the most beautiful 1938 tea set made out of porcelain with golden details made in Germany. The set is incomplete but I got a very good price for this beautiful set that includes a very nice 11 cups! I also found a cute little finger thimble with greek drawings, while this isn’t my aesthetic I found it so nice that I bought it! 🙂

I have also since last week started a new Instagram account, in case you are interested in these things!
