Two Weeks of Hiatus

Hello Dear Readers, unfortunately due to a sudden influx of chronic pain I have been mostly unable to engage in the wonderful hobby that is sewing, therefore I do not have any updates on my 1950’s blouse I am working on. In addition to that, the industry I work in (Game Development) has a movement happening where women are coming forward to share their abuse and sexual assault stories and it has been absolutely heart breaking to read so much horrific stories.

This in conjunction with my chronic pain, the #BLM movement, and seeing the numbers of Covid-19 go up again, has rendered me completely unable to sew.

So a two week hiatus where I was able to rest may have been sufficient to restart my motivation to sew, however this may be needless due to my chronic pain.

Thankfully, today I have been able to find the mood and motivation and strength to create a feet hammock for my office desk! This will (hopefully) reduce strain and as a result be able to do more fun things! I did, however, do this with a sewing machine as opposed to by hand because I just couldn’t get myself to hand sew something non-historic I am solely using for the purpose of putting my feet on it!

The feet hammock is made from a Viscose-Linen (recycled viscose) because I was looking for a strong and durable fiber that was not made out of plastic(polyester) because even my feet deserve something better than laying in plastic all day!

The rope that is used to attach the hammock to the desk is a sailing thread(I don’t know the fabric), I accidentally once bought a spool of that and thought it be the perfect strength to hold the weight of my legs.

I did not use any particular pattern for this as it is just a rectangular shape with 2 double folded edges that the rope goes through, I suppose this is basically an extremely oversized face mask, come to think of it.

Should you want to re-create this for yourself I am more than happy to tell you how, but if you want to get started maybe the following details suffice:

The fabric excluding margin is the following dimensions: 63cm width to 28cm depth. I used about 2cm wide double folds so 4cm is lost on either side, making the width of the hammock in the end 55cm. This is a width that works for me, but you can always adjust it to your needs 🙂
